Studio Journal
Notes from the San Antonio studio on glaze tests, kiln openings, and the raw steps behind each finished piece.

Wholly Clay experiments
Atmospheric firings, controlled unpredictability
Raku, obvara, and horsehair firings each pull a different kind of surface from the clay. Smoke, reduction, and ember contact decide the patina, so every glaze test is logged and compared.
The Unwholly Works studio runs the same way: a trial mixed-media assemblage might end up as a Zombie Nutcracker, and the failures stay in the notebook.
From clay to finished piece
Each piece moves through the same stages
01 Hand-building
Coils, slabs, and pinched forms set the personality before any glaze touches the surface.
02 Glaze testing
Oxides and glazes are mixed and tested in small batches to find tactile patinas.
03 Atmospheric firing
Raku, obvara, and horsehair firings bring smoke and ember into the outcome.
04 Assemblage
Fired works are combined with mixed-media elements where the piece calls for it.
